JULY 19, 2006
The AWA met in the Meeting Room of the Washington Township
Builting at 7 p.m. on 7/19/06.

Maggie Cisar, Melodie Anderson-Smith, Clif Norris, and Judy Bricker.
Treasury: Bruce reported that there was
an extension to the Legacy Grant until December, 2006.
Riparian Maintenance: Committee has sprayed
Transline and reports the weeds have responded to this environmentally
friendly spray.
Grants:
Legacy: Steve is working with Rob on possible fall
projects, among which could be replanting lost trees at the Rebok farm
and a project at the Summitview Elementary School in partnership with
Rotary Club.
Alexander Stewart Foundation: A grant from The Alexander
Stewart Foundation was awarded in June for $860. This was to fund an
educational brochure that could be distributed to streamside property
owners to show them techniques for restoration and storm water management.
Judy is recruiting help to develop this brochure, aiming for an early
fall completion.
319 Grant: This grant application for a whole Antietam
Watershed Implementation Plan is pending.
Volunteer Opportunities: Stream Monitoring
(Some East Branch sites needed, expansion to the West Branch); Board
Officers (upcoming elections in October), Organizing the Office at 32
West Main, along with any other projects ongoing.
The program for the evening was a Powerpoint on the Stream
Monitoring Program. Melodie Anderson-Smith reported the ongoing partnership
with ALLARM from Dickinson College. Some of the concerns are point discharges
and acid rain. The data objectives are educational, problem solving
and awareness. The volunteers do a physical assessment, chemical testing
and biological specimen identification. Frank and Sue Conway maintain
the data base. Maggie and Judy displayed the testing kit used by stream
monitors. The powerpoint program is available for presentations.
The next quarterly meeting of AWA will be Wednesday, October
18, 2006, at 7 p.m. at the Washington Township Meeting Room.
Respectfully submitted,
Judy Bricker
