The quarterly meeting of the AWA met at the Washington Township Meeting Room at 7 p.m. The AWA Board met previous to this meeting and resumed afterward to finish business.

The Minutes of October 19, 2005 Meeting were reviewed and accepted. Members were reminded that January yearly membership dues were to be renewed, membership being $10.00.

Members and volunteers were reminded to keep track of their volunteer “in-kind hours,” and it was requested they be e-mailed to Bruce Francis so they can be reported for the Legacy grant.

The first project this year will be March 25 at Quincy United Methodist Home, where the unfinished area on the opposite side of the bridge from last year’s planting project will be completed. The Lions Club will again be coordinating with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Introductions: Introductions were made throughout the room for all present. Dawn Thorpe, the new representative from ALLARM was present, as were Rick DeVore and Steve Lathrop from the PA. Department of Environmental Protection.

Rick DeVore and Steve Lathrop made a presentation regarding a Growing Greener Grant possibility for our watershed, a 319 Program through the Clean Water Act. They explained the basic requirements of the grant, and the fact that it would be a professional study made to identify areas within the watershed that were of concern, and the suggestions to remedy those problems. The AWA could then apply for grant monies once priority problems were identified. There was a question and answer period, after which time the meeting was again turned over to the Board for vote on whether to apply for the grant. The deadline for application was announced to be March 3, 2006. The Board agreed to apply and a 319 Steering Committee was formed to prepare the grant application.

Respectfully submitted,

Judy Bricker

Secretary
