OLD BUSINESS:
Steve Rettig reminded everyone to pay their 2007 dues.
Bruce Francis reported $17,495.74 in the checking account;
$670.29 in the savings account.
The minutes of the 18 October 2006 meeting were reviewed
and approved.
Legacy Grant:
Merle Holsinger has donated much of his time to draw
up plans for the rain garden. He is sending plans to three other contractors
for bids to submit to NFWF.
AWA may have to apply for another grant, which may delay
the project further.
This is a good project for the schools and will serve
as a teaching model for instruction on wetlands for elementary students.
-
319 Grant: Have been unofficially notified that the
AWA has been awarded $75,000, which is below what we applied for.
DEP suggests the AWA focus on the West Branch of the Antietam Creek.
First meeting is scheduled for 26 January, 2007, 2.00 p.m., at 32
West Main Street office. The entire Board and Executive Committee
are invited to attend.
-
Stream monitoring will expand to the West Branch of the Antietam Creek.
There is a need to recruit West Branch stream monitors, Quincy, Mt Alto,
to the Maryland line.
- Steve Rettig has new shovels and wheelbarrows stored in his barn for
AWA use.
- Melodie Anderson-Smith reported that the Water Striders are going
to Upton to view the reclamation facility. There is room for people
to join the 22 February 2007 trip. For details, contact Melodie.
-
The Washington Township supervisors included the
AWA in the budget for 2007. The AWA will receive $1,000 from the township
this year. In future years, the AWA will be a line item in the township
budget.
-
Undersigned asked Steve Rettig if he would consider calling the editor
or publisher of the Record Herald to ask if the RH would resume printing
the Antietam Currents column. The Record Herald has not printed a column
since late summer.
-
Maggie Rovelstad discussed the Greenway and Open Space Plan trails in
the township and along both branches of the Antietam Creek as recreation
and as a means of transportation. There are walkways in the comprehensive
plan. Township did not specify paths for bikes. Steve Rettig views these
paths as good for people and for the environment.
- Maggie asked that the AWA keep this in mind for future 319 grants.
There is a copy of the drawings in the township office.
-
SPECIAL PRESENTATION: By Andrew Stottlemyer and Mary Ann Shaffer, Erosion
and Sediment Control, Franklin County Conservation District.
Respectfully submitted,
P. A. O'Connor
